A 1st birthday cake for a little boy who loves cars.  Coordinating cupcakes for each of the kids.

A 13th birthday girl who loves sports.  She plays tennis, soccer and swims and her mom requested a cake that reflected her love of these sports.

This is my most recent cake, completed last weekend.  It was made for a 3rd birthday party at the Buffalo Zoo.  The birthday girl loves elephants and requested an elephant cake.  The base is a 3 layer almond sour cream cake and the elephant is a mocha layer cake.  The base cake came together quickly, I had made the flowers and leaves earlier in the week so it was fun putting that all together.  (I wish I would have made more fence posts, I would prefer them closer together.)  Anyway, the elephant made me a little nervous, I’ve never done a sculpted animal like that!  But I think he turned out pretty well.  It took me a little bit to get the fondant to wrap around the legs the way I wanted (it’s one piece!) so it got a little dry.  Fortunatly, the slightly cracked look was perfect for elephant skin!  The birthday girl liked it and so did her parents, which is the most important thing.  And it was really fun to make.  Enjoy!

A Halloween themed-birthday cake for my friend Julia’s daughter:

As I was looking at all of my cake/cupcake photographs, I realized that while the cakes were nice, the pictures were pretty crappy. So I bought a new camera with hopes to take those wonderfully artistic cake photos I see around the blog world. My Canon Xsi camera arrived a few days ago and it’s making me crazy that I haven’t had time to play with it yet!  I did bake a batch of cupcakes that I’m going to decorate tomorrow and then try to shoot.  I think I’ve found the perfect window for natural light…we’ll see how it goes!

I love decorating cakes.  It’s the perfect combination of art and baking and has become somewhat of an obsession of mine lately.  I dream of doing it professionally… Maybe someday.  Although would it still be as much fun???  Anyway, this is just a little site to keep my cake portfolio.  Enjoy!
